What is Groundhawk?

Groundhawk is a user-friendly solution for mapping and documenting cables and underground infrastructure in 3D.

Designed for builders already on-site, Groundhawk uses 3D scanning with cameras, satellite positioning, and other sensors to capture accurate data.

Groundhawk automatically analyzes cable routes and depths, with results visible almost in real time on a map. It also provides useful statistics, such as progress meters, to help track project development efficiently.

Groundhawk makes mapping simple, accurate, and fast, empowering builders to focus on what matters most.

Groundhawk use cases

Groundhawk is a versatile tool for mapping various types of utilities, including electricity, fiber, water, gas, and district heating systems.

Groundhawk is designed mainly for open-trench mapping but works equally well for closed-trench mapping or pinpointing specific locations, like poles or cabinets.

With Groundhawk, you can:

  • Map utility routes before digging to create pre-dig documentation.
  • Document routes after digging for accurate post-dig records.
  • Plan and create detailed utility routes in advance.

Groundhawk adapts to your needs, providing precise and efficient mapping for every project.

Who uses Groundhawk and for what?

Groundhawk is designed for cable contractors and operators who prioritize efficient, high-quality network construction.

By using Groundhawk, you can:

  • Speed up project timelines.
  • Reduce costs through better planning and documentation.
  • Create well-documented networks that are easier to maintain and protect from accidental damage.

With Groundhawk, building and managing your networks becomes faster, smarter, and more reliable.

What is 3D scanning and how does it work?

Groundhawk's 3D mapping technology uses advanced satellite positioning with error correction to achieve centimeter-level accuracy.

Groundhawk's environment scanning is powered by photogrammetry, where a video stream from a moving camera captures key points. When viewed from different angles, these points are resolved into a detailed 3D representation, similar to stereovision.

This cutting-edge approach ensures precise and reliable mapping for your projects.

What is GNSS positioning and how does RTK work in general?

While commonly referred to as GPS, Groundhawk uses GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) for positioning, leveraging multiple satellite constellations: GPS, Galileo, Glonass, and Beidou.

Standard GNSS, like what's found in mobile phones, provides 3–5 meters of accuracy. Groundhawk enhances this with RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) technology to achieve centimeter-level precision.

RTK relies on a network of ground stations with known precise locations. These stations calculate GNSS errors, such as those caused by the atmosphere, and send correction data to Groundhawk in real time.

This process requires a constant mobile internet connection, ensuring unmatched accuracy for your mapping needs.

Why to use Groundhawk?

  • Manual redline documentation eliminated

The accurate and clear As-Built data captured by Groundhawk replaces the need for manual paper documentation.

  • Progress reporting automated

Groundhawk minimises the need for manual progress measurements and reporting, saving time and effort.

  • Photos shared in real-time

Photos from the site are instantly visible to others, improving communication and problem-solving between the field and office, as well as among all parties involved.

  • Photo management centralized

All site photos are stored and displayed on a map in one convenient location.

  • The risk for human errors reduced

Groundhawk streamlines operations, enhances collaboration, and provides a smarter way to manage projects.
